Wedding Dresses Colors Other Than White

When my husband and I got married, I wore a red dress. The first time we got married we eloped in Arizona, I wore a red summer dress. The second time we got married (a ceremony up here in Canada) I had a red satin and lace dress made. I did not want to be traditional and wear white, I wanted to be different. Red is my favourite colour.

I have a cousin's cousin who wear red gown during her wedding day and the rest of the bride's maids wear also different gown colors, they don't have a color motiff.

I love varieties of colors. That is what life is, a rich exciting variety. I think if I were young again, I might do differently, but i am not sure.

I wore white but I did crochet my own dress. You will be happy to know that in Japan, the traditional color to wear is red for the bride. However, you do see more western type weddings where the bride is in white instead of the red kimono

I think the trend now is a varied choice of colors for wedding gowns. The traditional white has been a second choice in preference for more refreshing colors. During my time no one dared to go for other colors and the shops that rent out wedding gowns do not have the choice of colors unlike now where you can pick the rainbow colors on wedding gowns. How lucky the new brides are now? They not only look very charming in real but the snapshots are very captivating.

Yes, my wedding dress was a bespoke, handmade dress consisting of a fully steel-boned corset top and long skirt, all made in a gorgeous deep purple shot silk, with stunning dragonfly embroidery on the corset part. I got it from www.uptight-clothing.co.uk. It has matching shoes and bag, plus matching wire-wrapped boquet and jewellery (earrings, necklace, tiara). Purple is my faveourite colour and i'm not a traditional person so i thought why have a boring, plain, traditional white dress that won't suit me and i won't even like, why not just have the dress of my dreams to go with the wedding of my dreams! I adore the dress, and have worn it since to a ball, and hope to wear it again sometime too!

when i got married the 1st time (i had a second wedding for family etc) i wore a green sundress but i wore a white one for the showy one

I wore red and black for our wedding/handfasting. It was to symbolize my motherhood (I was expecting) and my cronehood as my oldest is now going off to college. (I'm married for the second time). I think that the entire "white" only is something that is very much dependent upon customs and traditions. I know in many cultures red is the color of the wedding. Namaste-Anora

George Harrison's first wife got married in fur.... I've never married, but if I did, right now I could marry in white.... (Personally, I want to wear a black cape, but that's just me...)

My mom wore red for her wedding...it's the traditional color for Chinese people.

For my first marriage I wore the long white gown with veil, for my second marriage I wore a knee-length sleeveless dress with matching tuxedo jacket in a champaigne colour. I managed to find shoes that matches exactly and it looked great. I still have that dress and have worn it a couple of times since. The first wedding dress I rented. I didn't buy a wedding dress for thousands of dollars; I rented it for $400 and the bridesmaids rented their dresses as well for $80. Didn't have bridesmaids at my second wedding; just my sister standing by my side.

When my hubby and I got married my dress was a traditional white color. I didn't really want it to be, but I didn't really have any other choice as that was the only wedding dress I could find that I fit into. Reason being that I was 6 1/2 months pregnant so I needed a BIG in the belly area dress. I borrowed my dress from a friend, and to cut down on the costs we had the wedding at our house and the Justice Of The Peace came here to our home. We weren't going to spend extra money on the wedding that we could put towards something for the baby that was on the way!

I wore ivory and was very traditional looking. But I have heard of brides opting for a less traditional route like you. I think that is great, it is more you. My sister has worked for years in catering and she has seen it all in bridal attire. She says the fanciest wedding she ever worked, the bride wore black!

My first time married I was married at the court house in slacks and a top......several months pregnant and with my 2 year old at my feet. The second time we also got married at the courthouse......same pastor, even!! lol But 2 months later we had a small ceremony at the church where I had gone as a child. My dress was black and green. My sweet mother told me, "marry in black, marriage won't last"...........she was right!! But my three girls had on white dresses to make up for the white dress that I never wore.

My second marriage I wore a dusty rose colored lace and chiffon dress, just below knee lenghth. First marriage was the all out blow out peau de soi white dress. Mom crocheted irish crochet sleeves with pearls. It was what I wanted at twenty. I do not know exactly when the white formal dress thing got started. I know that in pioneer times you just basically wore your best dress, or whatever. I know in some cultures black was typical. I think in other countries more joyful, stronger colors like red and saffron yellow are often used. I like red. Dusty rose just fit the mood of the time in my life. You should wear what you want at the time you get married.

Whenever I thought of a wedding I thought i wold wear a blood red dress and carry black roses. And the dress would be in the style of the 16th century.Like the dress Liz Taylor wore in taming of The Shrew.But it is all a dream. I will never marry.

I want to be different too. I want my wedding gown to be "iced pink" color. Iced Pink is very cool to the eyes, very pleasing and exudes loveliness, freshness, innocence and purity. It's super light pink combined with creamy ivory, this color combinations glitter when struck by light especially in the evening. I loved it because Pink is my favorite color and I want something innocent and fresh in my wedding day. This color is very relaxing and somewhat peaceful, it's like a baby's breath and fresh air at autumn.

I guess that a lady can wear any color wedding dress that she likes. It is up to her. Personally, I like a wedding dress to be ivory.

That sounds really fun. I haven't attended a wedding where the bride is wearing a different color dress except white, ivory or beige other wear champagne. Though I notice other tend to add embellishment of a different color to the dress and would mixed up another color as a combination or embroidery the usual wedding gown color. That sound really fun. Though I have a friend who choose black and chocolate brown for her wedding motif.

Everyone that I know has gotten married in a white. However when my mother got married, even though she wore a white dress, it wasn't anything that was really what people would consider a traditional white wedding dress. I think it was more of an ivory color but it was more of a skirt and dress top dress. It wasn't one of the long flowing gowns that people tend to think of when they think wedding dress.
